Devlog 1: You Gotta Start Somewhere

I’m building Operative.Online in Phaser 3, which is an open source game engine by Richard Davey, whom I support on Patreon because his software is helping me make my dream come true! Phaser 3 is newly released. It’s got fantastic features but the documentation is still sparse, so learning it is proving to be a challenge. However, it is well within my ability to figure out.

I’ve been working as a web developer for over 10 years now, and I currently lead a team of developers at my day job. I’ve dreamed of creating my own video game for my whole life, though! Some of my earliest memories (in my life) are of playing Sonic The Hedgehog 2 as a young child. Since that young age, before I even knew what a programmer was, I’ve desired to create experiences. This opportunity to bring you a deep interactive experience is one of my life goals (besides being a good Catholic and a good husband), so I’m extremely excited to see it taking shape.

I’ve written over 5000 lines of code for Operative.Online. I have a fully functioning alpha that I won’t be showing you. I’ve created my own collision detection and physics (before I found out Phaser comes packaged with some things I wish I had known about before). I have a ton of story ideas written down, character names, and schematics for over 40 guns. Oh, yes. There will be guns.

What I’m trying to say is that I have a lot to show you. But all in good time. đŸ˜‰
